Mulcair Denies Paul Manly the Right To Seek Nomination In Nanaimo Ladysmith

This is the state of today’s NDP under Thomas Mulcair. Paul Manly would make an excellent MP and yet Mulcair has denied him the right to even seek the nomination.

Here we are heading into a federal election in 2015 and the NDP leader is essentially a conservative.

Will they split the vote with Trudeau and let Harper back in again?

Mouldy Orange-from Rabble.ca

Mouldy Orange-from Rabble.ca

Ridding Canada of the Harper crowd is crucial and yet Mulcair moves the NDP to the right. They have lost elections in Nova Scotia, Ontario and BC and yet the same control freaks have the NDP by the throat!

If the NDP does not cooperate with the Liberals through strategic voting or other strategies we are risking more Harper running Canada into the ground.

Mulcair had better smarten up or thousands of NDP voters will vote Liberal as they did in Ontario, electing Kathleen Wynne

Here is an excellent piece from Creekside that underlines the absolute stupidity being displayed by leader Mulcair and the inner circle. This had better be straightened out quickly or the fallout will expand expotentially.

Here is another this piece ran in Rabble.ca  Paul Manly and ‘today’s NDP’ By J. Baglow

Dear Friends and Supporters

I would like to thank you all for your support and encouragement for my bid for the nomination to be the NDP candidate for the new federal riding of Nanaimo-Ladysmith. It is with regret that I write to tell you that the federal NDP has refused to allow me to stand as a candidate.

The local riding executive approved my candidacy for the nomination but the NDP National Director, Ann McGrath, has not approved me and the federal NDP executive will not let me stand as a candidate.

I have done nothing illegal or immoral, nothing that I am embarrassed about or which breaks the NDP constitution. The reason my candidacy is being blocked is political.

I have not received a written reason for this refusal and was told I will not receive a written reason. I was told verbally on the phone, that the reason was in relation to “what I said and did when my father was in Israel.” There was also concern that I was running to make Israel and Palestine an election issue.

In October of 2012, my father, a retired NDP MP, United Church minister and long time human rights activist took part in a humanitarian mission to the Gaza strip aboard the 54 meter sailing vessel Estelle. He was aboard the ship with European members of parliament and Jewish Israeli citizens who are opposed to the illegal Israeli blockade of the Gaza strip and the humanitarian crisis it is causing. The Estelle was seized illegally in international waters by the Israeli military and my father was taken to an Israeli prison and held incommunicado. During this time, I spoke up on behalf of my father and the cause that he was being punished for.

In addition to media interviews some of the things I did included a tweet I sent on my fathers behalf on October 18th 2012, an article I wrote that was published in Rabble.ca on October 22nd 2012 and an interview I did with Peter O’Neil in the Vancouver Sun in which I was critical of the NDP caucus for not standing up for my father, for international law or for NDP policy, the spirit of which my father had been working within (see note below). These are my unforgivable sins.

Israel and Palestine is an issue my parents are focused on, it has not been a focus for me except for the week when my father was seized illegally in international waters and held incommunicado in an Israel prison. This was not going to be an election issue on my platform. My political agenda is clear to anyone who views my Facebook profile, Twitter feed, Manly Media or Canadians Nanaimo YouTube channels or Manly Media company website. My key focus areas are water, First Nations, the environment, health care, the new energy economy and international trade.

I filed an appeal to the NDP executive and that too was rejected. It is clear to me that this decision will not be re-visited and I will not be given an opportunity to seek the nomination.

Thank you again for your support and encouragement. I wish the candidates who have been accepted for this nomination race luck and I wish the winner of the nomination luck in defeating the Conservative candidate and working with the NDP caucus in Ottawa.

Paul Manly

The NDP has a reasonable and balanced policy towards Israel and Gaza. Section 4.1-f in the NDP policy book states “New Democrats believe in… Working with partners for peace in Israel and Palestine, respecting UN resolutions and international law, supporting peaceful co-existence in viable, independent states with agreed upon borders, an end to Israeli occupation of Palestinian land, and an end to violence targeting civilians.”

The most basic UN Resolution (SC 242, Nov. 22, 1967) calls for “Withdrawal of Israel armed forces from territories occupied in the recent conflict” and the necessity “for guaranteeing freedom of navigation through international waterways in the area.” The continued occupation of Palestine, the blockade of Gaza and the seizure of the Estelle as well as other Freedom Flotilla vessels, run directly counter to this policy.

    Whither the NDP.

I have written endlessly about these issues and how the NDP are doomed by high level backroom Kool Topp Guys and Hill and Knowlton.

The Liberals have a lot of momentum, winning Trinity Spadina (Olivia Chows riding)in a landslide and even giving the Cons a run in Fort Mc Murray. In addition to winning Quebec and Ontario while holding most of everything East of there.

Years ago I foreshadowed – in great detail – all of this happening some on these pages, and spearheaded the whole strategy of “Cooperation” both NDP and Liberal candidates built leadership bids on. But to no avail.

Instead we see Conservatives gerrymandering ridings including our own new one where there is every likelihood that Stu Young will take the riding for the Conservatives.

ITs time NDPrs wake up and take back their party. Enough with simply being enablers of the Conservative reshaping of our country.

It seems to me that the Nanaimo-Ladysmith NDP should tell Mulcair to stuff it and carry on.

Every candidate for the nomination should back Manly’s right to seek the nomination.

Too much top down control is part of what has diluted the Federal NDP into some strange morphed up mongrel that aims at the Liberals instead of advancing an energetic social democratic agenda.

Sad fact is that we are being eclipsed on the left by the Liberals. It is not that they are a new fresh hope on the left. They have pretty much stayed on their track, it is the Federal NDP that has strayed and abandoned the progressive alternative to the Harper crowd.

One thing has become obvious. The NDP as Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition has been really heavy on the “loyal” and very light on the “opposition.”

The strategy has been clear, I call it “Blinker Orange, Turn Blue.”

The “Orange Wave” strategists are well known as the Kool Topp Guys with some over the Hill and Knowlton types etc, however there is a significant contingent of henchflek easily identifiable by their adherence to the H&K, Kool Topp Guy playbook the orange ‘waivers’ keep under their pillows. (I say “Waivers” because they rarely take any responsibility and are never held accountable for the results of their risky often disastrous tactics and strategies, witness BC’s last election, Ontario’s most recent general election and by-elections, in addition to Nova Scotia)

Their tactics involve a lot of small ball populist offerings formally reserved for Progressive Conservative types as bait and election goodies in their often failed attempts to pitch a populist campaign.

ATM fees, whining and moaning about gas prices, taking Provincial taxes of hydro bills, sending out hundred dollar energy rebates etc – are all indicative of the pincer strategy deployed by the CON/NDP tag team, mostly to undermine progressive centre-left politicians from forming governments.

There is abundant evidence that the Orange Waivers are effective at one thing, delivering for conservatives often at the expense of the NDP. However such undeniable results seemingly only offers more fodder for them to double down on their misguided strategies and tactics.

Are NDPrs going to once again allow the small cadre of hacks and conservative leaning players currently steering the party to deliver yet another term to the Conservatives who have systemically dismantled the entire country?

With gerrymandered ridings and all the dirty tricks the cons deploy backstopped with the tag team approach of the Orange waivers that is exactly what is going to happen.

And here in the Cowichan an NDP bastion, we are going to see how Enbridge will be used as an election tool to install a new Conservative seat as the NDP/CON tag team is backstopped by the “non partisan” ENGO crowd stickhandeling things like “One Cowichan.”

So the point is, if progressive people who truly seek change do not start getting leverage and participating in the politics you are gonna keep getting what you got and moving further away from what you want.

Manly and his current episode embody this concept in spades. He will now be encouraged to run as an independent or even a Liberal, or maybe the NDP will “come to its senses” and reverse their decision as so far there has been no written commitment and they could easily change their mind as Manly is no “erupting Bozo” but rather is a man who has been groomed by his family and their history having had his eyes on the prize for a long time.

Manly is no maverick or loose cannon and this recent “Scandal” could all be marked down to the dominant trend in the NDP to paint itself more “electable” as the orange waivers mantra goes which does not always have to come at the expense of the candidate but rather can sometimes be of benefit.
