Harper’s Government – The Worst We Have Ever Had

Years ago I read a saying that pretty well sums up the current situation with Steve Harper and his snarly band of  rabid right wingers.

“There is a difference between the right to do something and the right thing to do.”

It is true that Harper’s ‘might is right ‘ approach may at least temporarily carry the day, pass motions in the parliament, and rewrite laws, policies and regulations neglecting the tried and true practice of disclosure, debate and discussion.

Framing this undemocratic behaviour as efficient and streamlining is a dangerous lie that will come back to bite them in places where they would just as soon not care to be bitten.

Harper's Mean Spirited Policies May Come Back to _ _ _ _ _!

Harper’s Mean Spirited Policies May Come Back to _ _ _ _ _!

However as the ‘Pandora’s Box’ opens and the impacts of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s ruthless approach to running government  registers on affected citizens, Harper and crew will learn, albeit slowly, that it would have been better to have followed the democratic processes that all other democratic governments throughout the world recognize and practice.

Their shock and awe approach may well have a shorter shelf life than they had planned on. When the lid  is opened and Canadians begin to really get a sense of the treachery that has been the trademark of this Harper government pushback will  happen in forms yet to be realized.

It ain’t pretty and it ain’t  democratic and it ain’t the Canadian way of running our affairs, eh!

Omnibus Bill Jammed Down Our Throats!

Omnibus Bill Jammed Down Our Throats!

The brewing backlash may well become a bigger story with more impact than the manipulative and deceitful manner in which the Omnibus Bill was rammed through a stunned parliament.

It was shocking unprecedented behaviour that left many of the opposition MP’s reeling, numb and in some cases understandably outraged.

The mean spirited mantra that is our federal government today will, I believe, bury the architects in the long run.

Harper had stated that we soon would not recognize Canada when he was through with his agenda. It was one of the few statements of his that I agree with. I doubt that he is prepared for the backlash that is surely coming as a result of his destructive and dishonest  handiwork.

Chief Spence is her 19th Day of Hunger Strike.

Chief Spence is her 19th Day of Hunger Strike.

Attawapiskat Chief Theresa Spence is now on her 21st day of her hunger strike protesting the treatment of her people, speaking out for natives across the country that have been impacted by violations to their treaties.

The Twitterverse is alive and buzzing at #idlenomore. The Chief is suffering and her health and life is at risk. She wants to meet and talk with Harper about the suffering and degradation that is life for many natives in Canada today.

Happy New Year Canada!

Happy New Year Canada!

So far Harper has refused. Will he let her die in her effort to address the needs of many of Canada’s natives? Will he?

Marches and protests are spreading and changes to treaties and environmental policy hidden in the conservatives cowardly budget will, in time,  become more fully understood.

Will we recognize Canada at this time next year? Let’s hope so!
