CVRD Acting CAO Raimondo’s Oral Report About Legal Opinion On Balme Gravel Application

Richard Hughes-Political Blogger

Exclusive audio report that the CVRD did not want you to hear.
Cowichan media coverage of  local government affairs is scanty, when covered at all.

Both the Cowichan News Leader and the Cowichan Citizen  corporate owners have stripped proper staff complements, especially in the newsrooms.

Shaw Cable  had for years  covered and broadcast the Board and Council meetings throughout the valley. They have quit covering CVRD Meetings but the Regional Government set up their own video system that can be watched online.

While their video streaming is is not as user-friendly as watching it on channel 4, it is at least an attempt, or is it?

Raimondo-'We were 100 percent wrong'!

Raimondo-‘We were 100 percent wrong’!

Repeatedly when matters of significance are being discussed the stream is not available and residents are left in the dark.

This was the case the other day where a ‘Special Meeting’ was called featuring a report on the legal opinion sought over the handling of the Temporary Use Permit-TUP for Balme Ayre Farms gravel processing ambitions.

In truth the legal opinion was a stall tactic used to block a vote on the Electoral Services Committee resolution that had passed 6-2 in committee. Once again the brain trust at the political level failed or deliberately misinterpreted the OCP and bylaws forbidding gravel processing on ALR land.

This link will allow you to download and then open to hear the report that was dropped by the CVRD. Here it is now courtesy of dedicated Cowichan Conversations correspondents.

* Listen to the end where attending residents peppered the Directors with questions about this latest CVRD debacle.
