The Downside Of Facebook

Richard Hughes-Political Blogger

A few days ago I fouled up my Facebook account, passwords etc. I had two responses, relief and regret.

Relief that I could be free from FB that allowed too much info out there to the godless marketeers and snoops.

Regret that I was cutoff from my friends and pictures and such, plus I would not be able to put posts up from my blog.

After fiddling around and tying myself in knots I called Dara and pleaded for help as I had spent a few hours trying to put it right again. Dara told me how to fix it in about 30 seconds. OK so now that my FB account is back up look at the video for what else we have to contend with.

This is a wake up call that we should all go back and check our security settings and be careful what is put up because at the end of the day it is all accessible whether we like it or not.

It is not just Facebook, but people who do on-line banking and allow their computers to “remember” their passwords. If you post in blogs, if you order on line, everywhere you go, you leave a trail of cookie crumbs back to who you are.

It is the wave of the future. The trick is to do it responsibly. Never allow your computer, your iPad or your iPhone to remember your banking card #’s or passwords (they can still probably find you anyway). Really good hackers can break into the US Defense computers, so all one can do is act responsibly and hope!

Act responsibly. That is asking me a little much, don’t you think!
