Driven by anguish and rejection of the Harper Government’s disregard for long established treaties and aboriginal peoples rights Chief of the Attawapiskat Nation Teresa Spence enters day 10 of her hunger strike.

There are indications that this stand is being broadly supported with natives across Canada and the US expressing concern and support.

Look at this video report from APTV.

Here are updates and background from other news reporting agencies starting with the CBC. Attawapiskat chief’s hunger strike part of wider movement.

There is a history of difficulties between her Band and the Federal Government as shown in this letter sent to all MP’s

NDP MP Charlie Angus said:  “This hunger strike is not about the situation in Attawapiskat per se, but the frustration that is really palpable in communities across this country. Here is a video report.

As Canadians we cannot afford to ignore the conditions faced by natives across the county. It is our duty and obligation to step up  to bridge the gap of privilege and opportunity too often out of reach for many First Nations citizens.

The victims in many cases are the band members led by corrupt chiefs. As a taxpayer I am in full support of bill c27. This is the First Nations transparency act. Is chiefs Spence in support of this bill? Why not ? What does she have to hide?
There were a few reserves in Manitoba, where many band members live in poverty yet the chiefs made more than the prime minister of Canada.
Harper is part of the solution unlike what some left wingers would like you to believe.

Innuendo and dodging won’t make it Leo. Yes, some bands are innefficient even corrupt but not a drop in the pail compared to Chief Harper. If there is a group that lacks transparency it is the Harper government. How do you feel about the Omnibus bill? If Harper is part of the solution then we are really &8^^&%E#.

Reading some of the comments on blogs, I’m feeling that Canadians have turned to the right and so prefer to blame the victims. What a sad state of affairs in Canada and First Nations. If they only knew they had the power to rid Canada of Harper at the polls it they just turned out.

    Love your site BTW….
